Jack Black x Ultra Trail Cape Town

November 26, 2018 IN Events

The Ultra Trail Cape Town is more than a race. It’s a cinematic experience. It’s a triumph. The culmination of countless hours of preparation and early morning wake ups. It’s companionship. It’s a celebration. The thought that, somehow, I finished this thing.

The route essentially circumnavigates the Table Mountain range – from Peak to Beach to Vineyard – and it’s hard as hell. Some say getting through it is all about mind over matter. Others say it’s about the ice cold Jack Black beer waiting at the finish line.

Last year we had the privilege of handing out the ultimate reward to the legends crossing the finish. The atmosphere and the gees was indescribable. There were tears – some of joy – palpable relief, and the sense of utter accomplishment.

We can’t wait to do it all over again.

Runners – we’ll see you at the finish. The rest of you – pull in for a beer and a bite and help us cheer these machines across the line.

Check out the race schedule for info on expected first finish times, and the UTCT Facebook page for more info. Bar opens at 10.00!

On Board for Wavescape Fest 2018

October 23, 2018 IN Events, Festivals

The Wavescape Surf & Ocean Festival began as a way to capture the stoke and exhilaration of surfing through stories of exotic destinations and secret waves, but has morphed beyond surf culture to the fight for a greener earth and bluer ocean. For us, it’s an amazing opportunity to bring communities together, to share stories, and to celebrate those meaningful connections surrounding the love of surfing and a shared passion for our oceans and our environment.

“It’s special to see how our festival brings together such a wonderful group of passionate people who are making a difference. An integral mandate of Wavescape is to remind us how crucial the ocean is to our survival, and to the earth we inhabit while embarking on a celebratory feast of ocean love and surf stoke. ” – Co-founder of Wavescape Steve Pike (aka Spike).

We’re a long time friend and supporter of Wavescape. We’ve been been along for the ride since 2012, and we’re super excited to announce that we’ve come on board as the headline partner!

UTCT: See You at the Finish

October 5, 2018 IN Events

Last year we had the privilege of handing out ice cold Jack Black’s to the legends who heroically crossed the finish line. Those of you who were there will know that the vibe was incredible, incomparable, amazing and downright special.

Since then we like to think (or at least hope) that we’ve formed a bond with many of you, and strengthened our bond with our beautiful Table Mountain.

This year we’ll be there again, with an outstretched hand and an ice cold Jack Black, for you, because heaven knows you deserve it.

Can’t wait.

The First Rule of Batrun….

February 23, 2018 IN Adventure, Beers, Events, Sports

…is never to talk about Batrun…

But, this race was so epic we just can’t help ourselves!

The Batrun is held around full moon every year in Feb or March. Grit, determination and extreme enthusiasm for the mountain and the outdoors are obvious pre-requisites.

The route is 30km, with a gain of 2250m (which is insane!), up and down the three Table Mountain National Park summits – Devil’s Peak, Maclear’s Beacon and Lion’s Head – all run at night with ‘bat vision’.

Sure there are some pro athletes in the group, but this is a community event run by those lucky enough to get their hands on one of the limited number of tickets, creating a super supportive, non-competitive vibe, with a good time had by all – including the crew.

Last weekend, from sunset to sunrise, we followed the runners up and down the three peaks cheered them on and handed out medals they couldn’t have worked harder to earn – ice cold Jack Black Beers.

“In running, the road is pop music, the trail is rock & roll, and the Batrun is heavy metal. It’s the raddest event on the calendar, and attracts the coolest, craziest runners and supporters alike.” – Pete Calitz.

Here’s a glimpse into the epic-ness that is the Batrun. A serious congratulations to everyone who gave this a go.

For more info on the race, check out the Batrun website.

A huge thanks goes out to the team below without whom this video would not have been possible. Thanks for giving us your Saturday night…and more!

We Love Real Beer!

The We Love Real Beer Festival is back! Ah, the laughs, the memories, the antics. If you’re old enough to remember those original festivals at the Neighbourgoods Market (yup, we see those grey hairs), join us again this year for a throwback to those early days and the crazy ways we use to sell beer – this time at our very own Brewery.

If you hadn’t quite hit the drinking age back in the day – or are new to the craft beer scene – this is a festival not to be missed. Food Trucks, live music, and the original crews manning their beer stands (including us of course), it’s a rare event that’s been a long time coming.

We Love Real Beer was co-founded by &Union and Jack Black to promote a community of Real Beer Lovers. Craft beer has evolved since those early pioneering days, shaping the industry to what it is today. Let’s not forget where we came from, and those early supporters that helped us get here.
