Pint for a Purpose x City Farm Market
The spirit of community is everything to us. This, and our early beginnings selling beer hand-to-hand at local markets, is likely why we felt immediately connected to the Oranjezicht City Farm Market Day and the people behind it.
The City Farm Market Day is a community farmers-style market for independent local farmers and artisanal food producers. It’s a place for everyone and their dog (literally!) to gather, load their baskets with organic, fresh produce, sample some delicious food, and grab a cold beer.
But there’s so much more to the market than beautiful views and a chance to do your weekly shopping – it’s about bringing independent farmers and artisanal food producers together, nurturing local suppliers, and supporting organic city farmers. And the proof is in the pudding. When the market started about 6 years ago it was hard to find farmers producing organic food – but they now support around 30 organic farmers and have enough supply to be open on both Saturdays and Sundays!
With our joint Pint for a Purpose, we’re hoping to play a role in ensuring that the market can continue to support and uplift their farmers through their City Farm Market Farmers Support Programme – which provides farmers with access to funds for seeds, equipment, and farming support.
We’ve chosen to donate proceeds from our Cape Pale Ale tap at the brewery for the month of February. For us, Cape Pale Ale is our connection to nature and the outdoors – a perfect fit. There’ll be a second tap at Market Day on Sundays – this one running for the full year.
With their displays of fresh veggies, these taps are pretty easy to spot, so whether you’re heading to our brewery or the market this weekend, make a bee-line for the bar and grab yourself a fresh, cold, pint for a purpose.
We sat down with Sheryl Ozinsky from the City Farm Market to talk about what makes the market so special, and how our Pint for a Purpose can help to continue supporting their hard-working suppliers.
