A rustic gem in one of Cape Town’s most visited harbour villages. This is the kind of place you’d find a slick looking dude smoking his cigar in the corner. That’s the sort of vibe we dig.

The food menu is what you’d expect, with local dishes being served à la Cuban style. The seafood platter is popular with tourists, and the fried potato skins served with a spicy mayo is always a winner. We also tried the coconut dusted hake strips and the sweet cuban bread. Delicious! A substantial meal needs a pint of beer to round it off,  and our Brewers Lager on tap will do just that.

Even if you’re not going for dinner, they have an awesome bar filled with beach sand, that really adds to the laid-back look and feel. It is great to see how busy this local bar gets, especially when it cooks with visitors in the summer months. Maybe it’s the rustic atmosphere and authentic decor, or the awesome view of the Kalk Bay harbour and the fishing tugs arriving with their daily catch. We like to think it’s because they serve such great food and great beer.

I’ll drink to that. Now if you’ll excuse me, I need to finish my cigar.
